we are happy to celebrate a rather unusual anniversary:
>>>the 418th day of existence of smuttlewerk interactive<<<
to honor this glorious day, we lowered the price of our most beloved game "Companions" to 3.99$ !
On a side note: the year 418AD saw the rise of Theodoric I as king of the Visigoths while in 418BC, during the battle of Mantinea, the Spartans and their allies defeated the armies of Athens and Argos.
Whatever this has to do with Companions, knowing some historical facts won't hurt anyone.
Ok, on to the next round! We uploaded the update last tuesday:
✓ added: 8 new unique items
✓ added: 2 rare items
✓ added: optional auto-aim for ranged units (go to the options menu to turn it on/off)
✓ added: Transmuter ➨ you can now scrap items in exchange for gold. say goodbye to overflowing backpacks!
✓ added: Shop ➨ the traveling shopkeeper has a lot of items for sale, even uniques.
✓ added: Ur-Steel ➨ Ur-Steel is the new global currency. you can buy it for real money and convert it into gold.

➤ there's always a slim chance of gaining Ur-Steel in-game, either by

We managed to implement some really strange bugs into our first update and we're deeply sorry about this! If you encounter any problems, please don't hesitate to contact us (visit www.smuttlewerk.de for the contact form)! We will do our best to help you out.
We're currently testing our next patch, which will fix the issues of the former. As a bonus, we added a new save menu, which vastly improves saving your games. You'll now have Auto-/Quick-/ and 7 manual save slots per game!
Please accept our apologies. We do our best so that you may enjoy Companions once again!
here we go friends, the first update will be ready soon.
Core Play Elements
group move and formations
better item handling. You can now DRAG&DROP items on player portraits (if the characters are adjacent to each other; a small bag will appear at the character portraits)
if you leave a single map using "Leave Game" in the options menu, the map will be SAVED. A "Continue" button appears at the bottom of the "Single Map" screen, so you can resume the map; if you die, the save will be deleted!
Tooltips don't appear where your finger is any longer
new items (unique armors, Book of the Ambusher)
new single map "Elemental Assault"
campaign menu crash: fixed a bug that crashed the game when using specific keyboard settings (only standard western settings may be used to name your save game or characters); corrupted save games will be renamed in order to work again!
autosave added in map 2 (Freddy now drops the items when you connect with the App Store and an autosave occurs right after that)
save point on map 4 corrected (it now saves after the bridge is created)
We improved inventory handling. you can now drag&drop items on the portrait of characters standing next to the active character. No more drop on the floor, go away and take it with another character stuff.
6 new unique armors and "Book of the Ambusher" integrated
The update should be read next week. We do a littly more playtesting and then upload to apple.
because some people complain about a missing save option, we feel there's some need for a clarification:
You may ONLY save in the campaign. Whenever you want.
Single Maps can NEVER be saved. On highscore maps, saving would be like cheating.
Another important issue:
If you name your savegame with other characters than the US/European keyboard setting allows, the game will crash and you will have to install again. Please use the english keyboard setting when entering a savegame name.
With the next update you will see a warning appear and the use of unsupported characters will be prohibited.
"Wow great game - This is a very well made game, excellent work! Game play is tactical, you can't just stand there and hack at your opponents. You have to strategize and think, very nice combat system. The overall feel of the game brings you back to the classic feel of D&D but the combat system is like that of VATS in fallout (pause the action and plan your attacks). I love it, great dungeon crawl. Worth the 5.00 bucks if it was a DS game I'd happily pay 35.00! Happy hunting!!"
"Awesome dungeon crawl - Ignore the review saying there is no save game, true only for the tutorial, you can save anywhere in the campaign as well as generous autosaves. Can be frustrating but you can solve any problem with multiple characters and weapons and powers. Be patient and build a ton of traps or jump in and hack or slash.Very fun, many hours of entertainment!"
"I love it!- Very creative. The developers must have put a lot of effort into this.Well worth the cost. :)If I could make a request, a nicer icon could be in order! I don't like the current one. :S"
"Fantastic! - Tactical dungeon crawler with tower defence elements. Challenging, thinky and fun. Recommended.Update: about 5 hours into the main campaign now and this darn dame keeps getting better. Surprising tactical depth bearing in mind the small skill count. Very challenging game. Been stuck a few times and had to actually rethink the plan of attack which is a welcome change over most d&d style games.Easily the best dungeon crawler on the app store today!"
"Dungeon Crawler/RPG love. - If you have been looking for a game to take you back to the AD&D game days then you are in luck. This game offers a nice choice of character classes that adds variety to the gameplay. There are lots of equipment to help keep the game interesting and also the ability to play single maps incase you want a quick fix. Overall a unique and fun experience that will keep you busy for hours. Great job Smuttlewerk!"
2. Start the campaign. There will be a small dialogue between two cultists who stand guard (after playing with the dwarf). One of the guards has a name. What is the guards name? <-- That's the question!
3. Finish the first map. On the second map you'll be asked to do an "old heap of bones" a favor. Accept his proposal and leave a honest review on the App Store.
4. Like us on facebook and/or follow me on Twitter! (not necessary, would be very nice though )
5. Mail your answer, the name you used to write the review and the App Store you wrote the review in to contest [@] smuttlewerk.de
6. Enjoy our game!
Participate only if you have a valid payPal account!
The contest ends on Suday next week (12th June). We will pick the winner at random and contact him/her. Good luck and have fun!
the first update will be ready in 2-3 weeks and it'll feature some fine new stuff. We have already implemented group movement and some cool new items. You will also be able to play Companions with iOS 4.2.1 or higher installed. I'll post about the other stuff once its 100% that it'll make it into the update.
We are featured in New & Noteworthy in the category Role Playing in the U.S. , U.K. and in Germany. to top it off we were also featured in the the Actions category, this time only in Germany and the U.K. .
Now I know, this isn't the major New & Noteworthy category, but it felt good all the same.
I dunno if anybody reads this, but the two star review on the US App Store is wrong, regarding the missing save option. Of course we implemented a manual save. You can save by getting into the pause menue.
This review really got me angry, but hey! what the heck, the world is a strange and sometimes terribly dumb place.
"Companions" is a top-view RPG/Dungeon Crawler/Roguelike for Apples IPad, where you lead a team of four characters into real-time battles against the false god "Detexx" and the "Hordes of Nether".
The game is playable as a campaign with a full-fledged storyline or as a single-map experience, packed with achievements and leaderboards. Both modes are single player only. Fight to save Altland or compare your battle prowess with players all over the world.
Instead of playing one character you play a party of four:
Minoatur: a warrior who gives as good as he gets
Elf: this gal was born with a bow in hands
Dwarf: he likes to build things, deadly things
Human: never content with the magic powers he wields
More details about the races and classes will be revealed soon so stay tuned for more information!
